Fly fishing is for women too
Are you a woman who has an interest in fly fishing, but the fears involved in sports as men? For years, fly fishing has been regarded by many as an outdoor activity for men. Whereas the first known book in English written on the subject was a woman, Dame Juliana Berners, it seems strange that fly fishing has only recently attracted a greater number of women in sport.
It is true that the majority of fly fishers today are men, but I see Women increasingly trying their hand at catching fish and learning to throw a fly rod. Women are discovering the peace and tranquility that can be made from wading into a river, matching the hatch and casting to rising fish.
Many equipment manufacturers Fly fishing gear are now producing specially designed for women. Not in the sense of making a fashion statement on the river, but for a better best fit. There are even fly rods are made with women in mind that have handles of a smaller diameter to fit hands more typical smaller women.
Although there is a growing number of women who enjoy fly fishing with their husbands and male friends, some are more comfortable learning the sport with other women. Many cities and counties now have women only clubs fly fishing where they can meet regularly, plan to fly fishing trips, learn from each other and enjoy flying techniques to link each camaraderie of others. There are now many guides and fly fishing instructors from the fairer sex, too.
In 2006, a team of five women participated Canadian Championship of fly fishing that took place on the Grand River near Fergus, Ontario and a woman, Sunny Vanderkloof of British Columbia, has ranked sixth in the tournament on 40 anglers.
An outstanding organization, Casting for Recovery, which began in 1996 with the aim to provide weekend Free to women who have suffered from breast cancer. These trips include professional education, not only fly, but the fish insect identification can feed to be able to select the best flies to lure fish, databases, equipment, and knotting. Fly fishing is an ideal sport for those in recovery – the motion of casting can be soft and at the same time, reinforces the weakness of the soft tissues
Recently, I was talking with a professional guide who told me that women often are much easier to teach the art of fly fishing too. While men will often have the idea that they need to use the muscles on the form, women can often take the rhythm of fly fishing lot faster than a man who spent most of his fishing experience try to fish as much as possible with casting and spinning rods.
So if you are a woman who has an interest in taking fly fishing, go out and find a trainer or club in your area and it give it a try. Most professional instructors and guides will be able to provide the equipment you need. Do not worry about spending money on gear until you discover if you want to enjoy sports and do more.
