Honduras: Adventures diving
Honduras is best known for its underwater treasures, especially his view of the world's coral reefs second largest barrier. It has a well deserved reputation as one of the best (and cheapest) places to learn to dive or complete your training dive master. Your dives will show you the coral reefs, underwater caves yawns, wrecked ships, and whale sharks docile. But after doing lots of snorkeling and diving, you discover there's more to discover in this beautiful country.
Honduras is the second largest country in Central America, but it remains largely misunderstood by the ordinary tourist. Although he gained some notoriety for its coral pristine coral and tropical warm waters – In both the Caribbean Sea and Pacific sides of the Ocean – the country has also impenetrable forests, and rivers meandering through the jungle largely unexplored.
Northern flickers its Caribbean coast in miles of white sandy beaches, vegetation lush and rich cultural diversity. Located just 30 miles north coast are the Bay Islands, famous for diving, first class off the reef, which stretches north to the Yucatan Peninsula. You can also visit the Hog Islands and, further east, Swan Islands.
Nature and Wildlife
Those who want to experience more earthly nature can visit the national system of large park, which covers nearly a quarter of its total area. You can hike to the cloud forests (peaks covered with clouds or rain for more than 70% of year) and tropical forests, the home of elusive wildlife such as jaguar and anteater. Its coastal wetlands provide habitat for monkeys, manatees, alligators and dozens of species of waterfowl. This gives many opportunities to kayak or canoe through the mangroves mysterious, but the more adventurous should conquer the world-class whitewater rafting the rapids of the Rio Cangrejal near La Ceiba.
The north-eastern Honduras is occupied by the Moskitia (Literally, mosquitoes), an area of 8,500 square miles. It has one of the largest untouched rainforest on the isthmus, sometimes called Amazon of Central America. Moskitia is not accessible by road: you can not use a plane or boat small sea, but those who go there are well rewarded by the experiences of tropical wildlife, open coasts, estuaries, valleys, floodplains, freshwater wetlands, to lagoons and mangroves.
Bird-watchers should visit the hinterland of Lake Yojoa region and the area around the coastal town Tela identify nearly 400 of the 700 species of birds, indigenous and migratory, flying through Honduras. The ancient Maya ruins of Copan, an archaeological site World Heritage Site, you remember the long and ancient history of Honduras. You can puzzle over the Hieroglyphic Stairway Copan and puzzles scientists in the 2500 Cellars Talgua years. The ancient city is located in Los Naranjos Archeological Park.
When to go
As the most tropical countries, Honduras has a rainy season and dry season. In the interior, particularly the west and south, the rainy season is roughly from May to November, with rains coming in the afternoon and lasting an hour or two. On the north coast and the Bay Islands, the rainy season comes later in September-December, but at all times outside of these months is perfect for your diving and snorkeling.
Travel is more easy in the dry season, especially for scuba diving and traveling to La Moskitia. February and March are good months because the weather is fairly stable most countries, roads and trails are drying, but the trees and brush are still full and green.
Plan your trip
Honduras is a cheap country to travel, if the dive will be costly. Your next biggest expense is housing: there are luxury hotels, but the hotel average expected cost up to $ 25 per night and there are places budget ranging from $ 12 in the most popular destinations. Most food costs Travel up to $ 8 per meal including drinks, tax and tip. Budget meals from street vendors and restaurants unnamed could cost $ 5 or less.
Hiking and biking are very good in Honduras, it must prepare for these, if you can, bring your own bike. Canopy tour – where you glide from treetop to treetop – is something exciting to do in La Ceiba and Roatan Cangrejal Rio.
